In early 2026, our independently developed method for producing 2,5-furandicarboxylic acid (FDCA) (Patent No. ZL202210234062.3) was granted an invention patent by the China National Intellectual Property Administration (CNIPA). This milestone establishes a dual-layer IP protection system that seamlessly integrates domestic patent authorization with international patent deployment.

Dr. Neng Guo holds a B.S. in Chemistry from the University of Science and Technology of China (2001) and a Ph.D. in Chemistry from Northwestern University (2007), where he conducted research under the supervision of Professor Tobin Marks, a member of all three U.S. National Academies. A prolific researcher, he has published over 20 papers in top-tier international academic journals.
In 2020, Dr. Guo founded CellUranics, spearheading a major technological breakthrough: the synthesis of FDCA from non-grain glucose using GA as an intermediate. This innovation has led to multiple invention patent applications. Under his strategic leadership in team building, fundraising, and industrial resource integration, CellUranics has commenced construction on its flagship 10,000-ton FDCA plant. Upon completion, it will become the world’s first large-scale facility to produce FDCA via this proprietary glucose-to-GA pathway.
Prior to founding CellUranics, Dr. Guo held key R&D positions at the U.S. Department of Energy’s Argonne National Laboratory and the global energy giant BP. He led critical projects, including cellulose-to-ethylene glycol conversion and tertiary oxidation technology for PTA, the latter of which helped BP reduce its global variable manufacturing costs by approximately US$9 million annually.
